What you need to know
Hamburg is where HYROX was born. This is the city that started the movement.
Hamburg Messe hosts the opening races of the 2026/27 HYROX Elite Series. Hall B6 for Age Group Races, Hall B5 for the Elite Series Race.
Hamburg Messe is central. U-Bahn Messehallen (U3) or S-Bahn Dammtor puts you at the venue from most hotels in 10–20 minutes.
No split-stay needed. Unlike some cities, central Hamburg hotels put you close to both the venue and the city's best food and neighbourhoods.
Late October: 7–12°C, expect rain or clouds. Hamburg is a grey-sky city in autumn. A waterproof shell and layers cover it.
Wave times often run across multiple days. Confirm your wave day with Hyrox before booking checkout dates. It affects how you build the trip.

A Sample Itinerary. How we'd build it

The race is one day. The trip is what you build around it. Here's the core and we could add days on either side to suit.

Travel should restore you, not exhaust you. Even the race weekends.

Day 1 · Wednesday or Thursday

Arrive. Find your pace.

  • Hamburg Airport (HAM) is about 30 minutes from the city by S1. Direct, easy train, no faff.
  • Check in at hotel, walk Speicherstadt or HafenCity, the brick warehouse district has good light in the late afternoon.
  • Dinner at Olá Lisboa. Portuguese seafood in Hamburg, and one of the best meals in the city. A short walk from most central hotels.
  • Early night. Hamburg has a social life that can keep you out too late.
One thing: I lived and worked in Hamburg. It’s one of those cities that rewards a slow first evening. Don’t rush to see it. Let it come to you.
Day 2 · Race Day

The day.

  • Get up. Breakfast. Hydrate. 20 minutes of light movement.
  • At the venue: collect your chip and bands, use the warm-up area, find your wave.
  • HYROX Hamburg Race. Have fun.
  • Post-race: protein within 30 minutes, then back to your hotel. Grab a Fischbrötchen or Franzbrötchen and coffee on the go as both are Hamburg staples and exactly the right size for a post-race stomach.
  • The evening meal is the earned one. Go Asian at Jing Jing or back to seafood at Olá Lisboa. They both work well when the legs are gone and you want flavour without fuss.
One thing: A Franzbrötchen is a Hamburg-only pastry; cinnamon, flaky and slightly sweet. You won't find them anywhere else. Worth having one even if you weren't planning to.
Day 3 · Day after the race

See Hamburg properly.

  • Morgenmuffel for brunch the name means "morning grump" in German, which feels appropriate the day after a race. Good food, relaxed pace, no rush.
  • Speicherstadt the red-brick warehouse district, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is best seen on foot. Miniatur Wunderland is here too genuinely extraordinary, book in advance.
  • Schanzenviertel Hamburg's most characterful neighbourhood. Independent cafés, vintage shops, good lunch options, a different pace from the tourist centre.
  • Elbphilharmonie Plaza at dusk. The concert hall took a decade and a billion euros to build. The free plaza is worth 20 minutes, and the views over the harbour are some of the best in the city.
  • Fischmarkt on Sunday morning if the dates align as it starts at 5am, finishes by 9:30. Loud, chaotic, brilliant.
One thing: Altona and Ottensen for a late lunch. They have a different pace from the Speicherstadt crowds, with better neighbourhood restaurants and easier tables.
Arriving early?

Add an extra night

  • We book you a hotel so you can acclimatize, walk, and experience Hamburg slowly before race focus takes over.
  • See the attractions, taste the food, explore the bars, and shop at Mönckebergstraße, Hamburg's main shopping street and a good orientation walk.
  • Jungfernstieg: the scenic waterfront promenade along the Alster lake. Spend time there. It's Hamburg at its most unhurried.
  • One thing: We can slot the extra night into your plan and handle the transfer from the airport.
Staying longer?

North Germany has more

  • Lübeck is 45 minutes by train, a medieval Hanseatic city worth an afternoon and the home of marzipan.
  • Sylt is 2.5 hours north, a North Sea island with a very different atmosphere.
  • Copenhagen is 5 hours by train if you want to extend the trip properly into Scandinavia. We arrange the hotels and transfers.
