What you need to know

🏟️
Historic first

A stadium race

The first HYROX inside a professional football ground. Fortuna Düsseldorf's Merkur Spiel-Arena. A different atmosphere entirely.

🌡️
Race conditions

Cool, comfortable racing

Around 7–13°C in mid-November. Pack a mid-layer and light waterproof shell. One of the more comfortable windows on the calendar.

🚇
Logistics

Central venue

DUS airport, 10–15 min by taxi or S-Bahn. U78 Metro stops at the arena. 15–20 min from most central hotels.

🇯🇵
City character

More than expected

One of Germany's fashion capitals. Home to one of Europe's largest Japanese communities. 300+ bars in the Altstadt.

🌊
Recovery

Rhine on the doorstep

The Rheinuferpromenade, flat, scenic, one of the best post-race recovery walks in any German race city.

📅
Wave timing

Confirm before booking

Waves run across multiple days. Confirm your race day before setting checkout dates.

A sample itinerary. How we'd build it.

The race is one day. The trip is what you build around it. Here's the core, add days either side to suit.

Day 1
Wed or Thu

Arrive. Find your pace.

  • Fly into DUS. S-Bahn or taxi to the city centre in 10–15 minutes.
  • Check in. Walk the Königsallee ("Kö"), the luxury boulevard split by a tree-lined canal.
  • Early dinner at Little Tokyo, Immermannstraße. Some of the best Japanese food you’ll find in Europe. Ideal pre-race meal
  • One drink in the Altstadt if you have energy, but only one.
One thing

I lived in Düsseldorf when I first moved to Germany. It has a quiet elegance that doesn't shout. The fashion crowd and the Japanese expat community give it real character.

Day 2
Race Day

The day.

  • Breakfast. Hydrate. 20 minutes of light movement, nothing more.
  • U78 Metro to Merkur Spiel-Arena / Messe Nord. Direct, reliable.
  • HYROX Düsseldorf Race. In a football stadium. Have fun.
  • Post-race: protein within 30 minutes. A flat 20-minute walk on the Rheinuferpromenade does more for the legs than sitting still.
  • Evening: Roastery Vier for coffee, then an Altbier pub for Himmel un Ääd.
One thing

Altbier, Düsseldorf's local beer, served cold in small glasses. You'll be offered one at the finish line. Accept it. One is fine.

Day 3
After the race

See Düsseldorf properly.

  • Roastery Vier for a slow morning coffee.
  • MedienHafen, striking postmodern buildings over the old port. Worth 45 minutes on tired legs.
  • Rhine Tower for panoramic views and a revolving restaurant near the top.
  • Altstadt Pub Crawl, slowly. Five bars is plenty.
  • A shot of Killepitsch, a local herbal liqueur, 42% ABV. One is the correct amount.
One thing

The Königsallee canal at dusk. This is the hour most athletes miss because they flew home too early.

Flex the trip around the race

Before · Arriving early?
Give yourself a day to settle
  • Coming in a day earlier makes the trip easier if you're flying from outside Europe.
  • We book a hotel so you can acclimatize before race focus takes over.
  • Shop the Kö, sit in a café, see Düsseldorf like a visitor for one day.
After · Staying longer?
The Rhine Valley has more
  • Cologne, 45 min by ICE. Cathedral, river, a different character entirely.
  • Rhine Valley by train. Vineyards, castle ruins, one of Europe's most scenic rail routes.
  • Amsterdam, around 2.5 hours by train. We arrange the hotels and transfers.
